CHALLENGE
Dream views often come with steep grades. We found this 1905 home sliding down a hill. Long time partner Best Practice Architecture tapped Sound Builders NW because they wanted a trusted collaborator to bring the client’s vision of classic-meets-modern to life.
SOLUTION
To take advantage of the sweeping views and keep the house firmly in place, we installed statetic pilings to support the foundation and pin the house in. To create the illusion of a floating platform, a steel trussed cantilevered deck was tied into an existing structure. To meet city code for a house of this size and height, a full sprinkler system to be installed—the first we've done on a residential project.
OUTCOME
The result was an entertainer’s paradise that features unbeatable pacific northwest scenery. New and old styles and materials came together seamlessly to create a beautiful, one-of-a-kind home.
